Office of Addiction Services and Substance Abuse (OASAS) Tobacco Use and Substance Abuse Facilities
With the enactment of the Part 856 Tobacco-Free Services Regulation on July 24, 2008, New York became the first state in the nation to require its Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) licensed and/or funded chemical dependence service programs to implement tobacco-free environment policies and to provide tobacco dependence education and treatment interventions. By learning new information about tobacco dependence and applying evidence-based practices, addiction professionals can significantly improve the quality of addiction treatment and make an unprecedented contribution to the health and well-being of people in recovery.
